evolution

GranOcean was founded in 1998 by Vincent Mausset, a widely respected yacht designer who saw a gap in the market: truly custom vessels built to handle real offshore conditions—without sacrificing timeless design. From the beginning, our work has been guided by a simple philosophy: create boats that are technically capable, efficient to run, and unmistakably elegant on the water.

1998: Founded on Offshore Capability

GranOcean began with a commitment to engineering-first design: reliable structures, sensible systems, and hull forms intended to perform in all weather. Every project was approached as a custom build—shaped around the owner’s mission and cruising style.

Early Years: The Passage-Maker Foundation

Through a successful collaboration with Sparkman & Stephens and Halvorsen, GranOcean introduced the Atlantique 50—an early expression of our long-range ethos. This platform evolved into the acclaimed Passage-Maker Series, spanning 50 to 88 feet, recognized for classic profiles and purposeful, seakindly design.

Evolution: Long-Range Monohulls to Advanced PowerCats

Building on our expertise in offshore monohulls, the GranOcean design team expanded into large power catamarans across commercial, supply, and pleasure applications. That progression refined what would become a defining strength of the brand: combining efficiency and stability with clean, balanced lines.

The Modern Era: W & X Series

The W and X Series represent a new chapter of collaboration with world-class specialists: naval architecture by Howard Apollonio, advanced composite construction and materials expertise from Gurit, and custom interiors by Vripack. Ranging from 54 to 95 feet, these yachts deliver distinctive style and intelligent technical solutions that enhance comfort, efficiency, and cruising range.

Today: A True Full-Custom Builder

Today, GranOcean is a unique and respected custom builder, leading in the development and manufacture of full-custom power catamarans in both composite and carbon fibre. Every yacht is engineered to be confident at sea, efficient underway, and tailored in detail—because trust is built through proven design, precision construction, and the experience of a builder that has evolved for decades.
